The Challenge

Sphere was tasked to create a technology solution to improve patient experience.

Hospital stays are generally an undesirable experience for most people. The lack of engaging activities and the monotony of the environment can take a psychological toll on patients, hindering their recovery process. Moreover, patients often find themselves unable to maintain their usual routines, including meal times, further contributing to a sense of disorientation and stress. On the medical side, healthcare professionals often lack the time to educate patients about their conditions, leading to information overload and increased anxiety for the patient.

A client reached out to Sphere to create a comprehensive solution to address challenge of fundamentally improving the patient experience in their hospitals.

The Solution

Sphere created an all-encompassing Patient Engagement solution that improved the experience for patients and staff alike.

To address these challenges, an innovative Patient Engagement Solution was developed to bring the comforts of home into the hospital setting. Patients were provided with tablets that could either connect to a TV or function as one if the screen was sufficiently large. This enabled access to familiar entertainment options, offering a much-needed respite from the hospital environment.

Additionally, the system incorporated a meal ordering feature, allowing patients to select from available menu options based on real-time hospital kitchen inventory. Timely reminders were sent to ensure that meals were ordered within the stipulated time frames.

Beyond entertainment and comfort, the platform served an educational purpose. Hospitals could populate the system with condition-specific educational materials and videos, custom-tailored to each patient’s reason for admission. For instance, a patient admitted for diabetes could use the platform to learn how to monitor their blood sugar levels or adopt a healthier lifestyle.
